A few weeks ago, we launched Cultivating the Future, a community development project that aims to support the daily lives of rural families in Santiago del Estero. We began working in schools in Navarro, Varas Cuchuna, Onc\u00e1n, and Belgrano, together with 287 students, 16 teachers, and 183 local families. This project is made possible thanks to the support of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Argentina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Having access to safe water makes an enormous difference in the everyday life of a community. That is why the first step in these four schools is to ensure access to this essential resource. We built and improved rainwater harvesting systems, installed water tanks, and upgraded the plumbing infrastructure at the schools. In addition, we provided ceramic water filters to all 183 rural families to ensure that every household has access to clean, safe drinking water, helping protect the health of children in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the schools, the land also becomes an open-air learning space. We created vegetable gardens where children can learn about and put different farming techniques into practice. Part of the produce harvested will be used to prepare meals in the school cafeterias. When there is surplus production, it can be sold within the community to generate income and help cover the schools\u2019 own needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gaining new knowledge and tools is essential for continuing to grow as a community. That is why we will also support women who are heads of household in the production and marketing of products made from local native resources, such as cha\u00f1ar syrup, wild honey, and different carob-based products. The goal is for these products to become a source of income for their families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cultivating the future means supporting communities in their own processes, staying close to them, and also learning from everything each community has to teach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We want this project to be a starting point for continuing to work together, so that every lesson learned can keep supporting families in their everyday lives.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
